Here goes the last minutes of internet appreciation month. In what way have you served our fatherland? Uploading the plans for an orgone generator? Compiling a history of Victorian robots and airships? Teen Titans? |

Honor Roll Matt Pierce - Matt was a very soft spoken lad who sat next to me in Latin. He was a positive erudite and the most humble of gentlemen. We first spoke and became friends after Matt came to my defense in an argument with another classmate about Thoreau, a person whom Matt knew a good deal about among other things. He was also an avid fan of Jean-Luc Godard and turned me on to the director's later works. Last I heard he was a classics major at FSU, spending a lot of time with the ancient verses. Samit Shah - I met this guy in 2001, a year when most of us were blindly following the president in blowing up who ever or whatever sounded good at the time. Sam was a rare case, a person who refused to let his humanity be brushed aside by the so-called "patriotism" of the time. Sam was learned in the life of Gandhi, a personality whom we talked about increasingly often. Beyond his social exterior Sam was a sharp intellectual, the best our school's IB program could hope for and without an ounce of the pretentious attitude. Last we talked he said he was pursing a carrier in medicine because he wanted to "help people." Knowing Sam, you can bet that this was his honest intention. Aaron Hoffman - A very quiet man who knew a lot about LSD. He and I used to laugh always about communism and communist icons. Fresh out of high school he bought an AK-47 and no ones seen him since. Here’s to you, comrade. Wyatt Heck - For Wyatt, conversation was just as much of a weapon as his Kung Fu. I treasure every moment I spent working with this man and live happier knowing he is out there, still cultivating the seeds of an unstoppable intellectual revolution. Jason Croasdaile - He was cool as fuck and new his shit. The first time I heard the names of Sage Francis and Michel Moore, it was out of Jason's mouth. I have no idea where he is now but I suspect he left town soon after high school. I’ve been scanning the crowd for him at hip-hop shows and political rallies and will continue to do so- hoping to pick up scraps of J-Croas' cool handed wisdom. |

Sometimes when I am falling asleep or just waking up, I become cognizant of a nonsense phrase which I am repeating to myself. The phrase is always different and never makes any sense. Just recently I have tried to keep a record of my semi-unconscious babble on a piece of paper beside my bed. Here are some of the more amusing bits:
eating fruit like that in these modern summers is a risky game, Winston.
blowin culmpy mud in plumed satchuls
thats the only thing thats keeping me from killing myself- a thin flavorful layer of yeast jelly
arbys more like "ARRRRRRRRG! BEES!!!" LoloLO
Say, mang. whats up with all dis menstral blood?
thats a dusty little mod on your parents deathbead
I feel heavy after eating a pb & jelly. I need some thing to lighten me up. I need a crossant. I need some tea in my cup. Hay Marcele, ive been jackingoff all day to the thought of that blowjob you gave me in 6th grade.
(sic) The last one is clearly the most confusing. |
